Review Topic: K1 Visa

Our appointment time was 12:45PM. We showed up around 12PM and were 3rd in line. Once we were let inside, the whole process took less than an hour. All the staff were extremely friendly and professional. Our interview took maybe 5 minutes. The only questions were how we met, do we intend to get married within 90 days of entering the US, and why we went the K-1 route instead of the CR-1 route. I was then asked to take a seat and my fiancé was advised about human trafficking and domestic violence. I was called back up to the window and told our visa was approved.

We went through the NVC. Original appointment was in March, however, as I could not attend, I set up a new one using the embassy website and was told to ignore the first interview scheduled by the NVC.

The interview was set for 12:45. I arrived at 11:45 and there was no one there and was told to come back at 12:15 (In hindsight, I should have just waited there). By 12:15 the line was already around 20 people long. When you go inside, they take your phone so be sure to bring a book or something. Went to the second floor where i was ushered to wait for the first window. After a 1 hour wait standing in line, I got there and they wanted all the documents that I had submitted to NVC, including a copy of the I864 and supporting docs. Then I waited for another window, where they took my fingerprints.

Finally, I got called up to the last window for the interview. I listened to a few interviews before mine where the applicant had to deal with quite a few questions ... read complete review

Everything was polite and professional, as others have mentioned. The whole thing took about 2 hours, including having to go next door to the government office to get new family relation and marriage certificate forms because my ARC number was partially redacted in our original versions (Not sure why? Make sure yours have your full ARC number visible!). Luckily that was quick and we just had to run in and give them the forms. Here's the timeline of our visa and approval:

7:45 am Arrived and went to the second floor and waited to hand in documents (we brought everything we submitted to NVC)
8:00 am Gave them our docs
8:50 am Got called up and told about the forms we would need to go get (as I mentioned above)
9:15 am Had a short interview where they asked about where we met, when we got married, what my job was and why we were moving to the states - really quick, polite and easy, then they gave us back most of the docs we submitted
9:20 am We ... read complete review

I was sent back to get yet another Korean criminal background check. I had so many to get since I lived in multiple countries long term. The vetting is really stringent. I had had one done for my time in Korea but was denied because it wasn’t done at the central police. So I had to make another appointment but that one wasn’t an interview anymore. I felt pretty comfortable at the interview itself. Our story was pretty amazing to tell anyways.

Our appointment was at 7:45am and we were allowed to enter the embassy at 7:30. We both showed our passports, and my husband was allowed in. Went to the second floor - we were maybe 5th or 6th in line. I showed them the appointment letter, gave them my photos and was given a yellow piece of paper telling me the order I should submit the paperwork. The husband and I sat on some chairs and waited for my name to be called. I was called 4 times: First to hand in the civil documents and the I-864. We spoke to a woman, and she asked my husband if he worked in Korea. She then asked if we had set up a joint sponsor as foreign income does not count and the CO would probably request a joint sponsor. We replied we were using assets and she asked us to hand in the bank statements (we gave the most recent bank statements from my husband’s US bank accounts). Second time, I was called as they forgot to give me the DV pamphlet. Third time: A woman scanned my fingerprints. Finally, we were call... read complete review
